The research undertaken around this work explores the idea of community and the idea of a national identity. Fish and chips are so synonymous with ‘Britishness’ that any kind of reference to it suggests a whole host of values around ideas of nostalgia and tradition. The piece accentuates with the labour of the food preparation.
